Google's 8,960-chip training TPU pod — 3D-torus interconnect, BF16-strong chips, accessible as Cloud TPU.
TPU v5p is a Cloud TPU-only training chip, since succeeded by Trillium and Ironwood. Each chip pairs 459 BF16 TFLOPS with 95 GiB of HBM at 2,765 GB/s. Up to 8,960 chips connect via a 3D-torus inter-chip interconnect at 1,200 GB/s bidirectional per chip.
Earlier-generation Google Cloud TPU, still offered alongside Trillium and Ironwood. Available exclusively through Google Cloud — no on-prem deployment path.
Google's documentation names TPU7x (Ironwood) "the latest TPU available on Google Cloud": generally available since 2026-03-31, with 9,216 chips per pod.
