Sanctuary AI's general-purpose humanoid platform, unveiled May 16, 2023 as the sixth generation in the company's iterative hardware program. The platform pairs a bipedal chassis with 20-DOF hydraulic hands, designed for fine manipulation of human-shaped tools and objects in commercial work environments.
The robot is driven by Sanctuary's in-house Carbon control system, which the company describes as a cognitive architecture intended to map perception, memory, planning, and motor control to a single decision loop. Phoenix deployments were pilot-stage — Sanctuary ran paid work cells in retail and manufacturing settings with select partners rather than shipping a commercial SKU.
Sanctuary is headquartered in Vancouver. The Phoenix line iterated past Gen6 (a Gen7 platform was later referenced on the company's site), but Phoenix Gen6 remains the publicly documented configuration with full published specifications.
Status, checked 2026-09-24: on 2026-06-17 Sanctuary said it now deploys its AI on existing commercial robot platforms rather than waiting for humanoid hardware to mature, keeping industrial humanoids as a future goal. Its homepage lists AI-enabled automation on existing robots as deploying now and robotic hands as in development, and no longer offers Phoenix as a product. Board chair Daniel Friedmann became CEO in June 2026.
